Itinerary

Arrival at the airport in the city of Juliaca. Reception by a member of our staff, who will give you the necessary assistance and then you will be transferred to the city of Puno, capital of the country’s living cultures and home to the highest navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca, and will accompany you to the chosen hotel. . On the way to the hotel we will visit one of the most important archaeological sites in Puno, the Sillustani chullpas, 34 km northwest of the city of Puno. The Sillustani chullpas were massive pre-Inca and Inca stone tombs up to 12 meters high built by the Kolla and Inca religious leaders almost 3000 years ago to bury important leaders, there are more than 90 chullpas of different sizes and shapes. The Umayo lagoon is located at the foot of the chullpas, which adds great beauty to the landscape. In this ecosystem you can observe different types of birds and different wild animals, as well as the agriculture system called “waru waru” that served as protection for crops from frost, this technique was built by the Pucara culture and developed by the Incas. , currently the local population continues to use these systems. Arrival in the city of Puno, transfer to the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the Port of Puno. A 25-minute boat ride to the island of Uros. Fishermen and hunters inhabit the floating islands of the Uros. The residents of the Uros use the reeds (aquatic plant) that grows in the lake to build their islands, homes, for cooking and eating, as well as for the dense roots generated by these plants that support the island. Currently the population speaks the Aymará language, there are around 50 artificial islands and the raft is the only means of transportation used. A trip to the island of Taquile, located in the area of Lake Maggiore, famous for its production of crafts and its beautiful textiles (declared a cultural heritage of humanity). Furthermore, people still practice the principles of Inca morality such as “Ama Sua” (do not steal), “Ama Quella” (do not be idle) and “Ama Lulla” (do not lie). Currently approximately 2000 people live there, the residents wear a very special hat (single, married or authorities). Visiting non-touristy areas you will appreciate temples, tombs and terraces from the pre-Inca era (Pucará), its landscapes, traditional farming techniques and ancestral customs. This visit can be tiring, due to the 565 steps to go down to the main port and the altitude (13,000 feet / 4,030 meters above sea level), but it is worth the effort. Then a return trip to Puno. Overnight in Puno.

Breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to the bus/train station/airport to take transportation to your next destination.
